About/ Editorial Policy

The Winnipeg Review is published quarterly online with frequent updates. Any opinions expressed belong solely to the authors and do not necessarily express the views of the magazine, or of the publisher, Envoi Publishing & Productions Inc. All published work is edited for accuracy, style, and clarity.

Please note: The Winnipeg Review maintains no affiliation with its original publisher, Great Plains/Enfield & Wizenty, and therefore will no longer refrain from reviewing or advertising that publisher’s titles. However, if an editor at The Winnipeg Review was involved in editing a particular title from Great Plains or any other press, that book will not be reviewed in this magazine.

We reserve the right to edit comments posted to the site, and to request the identity of those posting comments; we do not publish or share the email addresses of our readers.

If you’re promoting your own book or a friend’s, please note that we do not review self-published books or e-books. Our mandate is to to review English Canada’s varied and prolific fiction that comes from professional presses, with which it’s hard to keep up. We believe in gate-keeping just as Robert Frost believed in fences. And yes, we know Walt Whitman self-published; he was also a genius, an exceedingly rare condition among humans in Canada and elsewhere.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts which last year invested $20.1 million in writing and publishing throughout Canada.
