Craig Russell’s Book Bag for the Beach

Interviews

Here are four polymathic summer reading recommendations from YA author Craig Russell:

All My Friends are Superheroes, by Andrew Kaufman

Original, witty, fun and touching, Andrew Kaufman’s novel – All My Friends are Superheroes – is the perfect length for a weekend get-away.

One Good Turn – A Natural History of the Screwdriver and the Screw, by Witold Rybczynski

Brilliant. Clear. Always interesting. This one should be in your hands today. Then give it to a relative who needs to broaden their historical perspective.

The Meaning of Everything – The Story of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester

Celebrates the obsession that drove generations of men and women to create the OED. A great book about an amazing achievement.

How to Read a Novel, by John Sutherland

A good book for readers. An excellent book for writers. Sutherland has spent a life devoted to understanding writing and reading and he shares that experience in a way that engages the imagination. I especially enjoyed his peek inside the world of literary criticism.
